It’s a GOOD thing to be corrected in a dance class! If you feel embarrassed, annoyed, picked on, or any other negatives then you are missing the point. You have a wonderful opportunity to partner with your instructor – and that partnership is built on trust. You must allow yourself to be vulnerable. If your defenses are up then no new information can breach the wall you have built and your growth in dance will stagnate. A good instructor will help you to feel safe but you must do your part as well and work with your instructor. Be open to corrections, ask for them even!
I love this video of the great Makarova taking a class. Note her teacher is right there watching her every move. Even a great prima ballerina gets corrected!
